INSIDE THE SCENE
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
:: The ATARI world is far from dead as the news below shows ! Year is 2002 ::
:: and there's still a lot of Atarians who do things, attend parties, start ::
:: new projects. We're gone underground but have you ever realized how much ::
:: is going under the grass ? Well call us insignificant bugs and we'll kick ::
:: even harder :) ::
:: ::
:: Sources : DHS bulletin board, Atari.org, #atariscne and many sceners who ::
:: will recognize who they are :) ::

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
AGGRESSION
- The ALT3 was held about a month ago and seemed to have been successful in
spite of little ATARI presence, and no ATARI releases at all.
>> see ALT3 report <<
- Wiztom started coding again, this time on the STe. Preliminary 'Beat Dis'
Shadebob screen planned for 3 Alt, didn't make it. Also looking into textured
3D stuff for STe?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BLIND IO
- He recently joined the crew CREATORS so far mainly active on C64 among
others. Read below to know more about that newborn ST crew !
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CHECKPOINT
- The only member that seems still active is 505. On their own both Modmate and
Defjam keep a low profile and seem totally uninterested in releasing their so
long awaited ST demo pressumably called MONOSTYLE, too bad :(
- 505 opened a Tracking homepage at http://tracking.atari.org. You can already
find a very interesting interview with Jess/OVR. We hope to see more soon.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
COBRA
- As the unfinished screens of AWAKEN hit DHS bbs, the rumour became reality.
They are dead or should be considered as such :( Too bad but at least we can
enjoy these AWAKEN bits.
>> see AWAKEN lost bits review <<
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CREAM
- News from another asskicking German crew isn't sounding any better. Still
here and there Ultra (formely known as Candyman) and A-t drop messages on DHS
but we've been waiting for HEFTIG for more than 2 years now... We can only
have a nice surprise now...
- All I can tell you is that this demo should come as two separate episodes.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CREATORS
- This crew, active for more than a decade on other machines (!), has decided
to give it a try at ST demos ! Both Exocet and Blind'Io have joined them.
Their first intro should be seen real soon (maybe you've just seen it :)
- Exocet has recently released a small and cute memory game called MEM
>> see MEM review <<
- I invite you to visit the CREATORS HQ at http://mermaid.c64scene.org/creators
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
D.H.S.
- Things have been oddly very quiet at the Swedish HQ of Evil. Daily update is
still brought to DHS homepage but not much more has been heard from them...
Sounds like Evil is preparing something, maybe for Mekka Symposium ?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DUNE
- Well we should have seen ILLUSION ...last year but from what I've heard, the
original code was so messy that ST Ghost almost had to rewrite every screen.
On that point, Chuck didn't help at all so that's another unkept promise...
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ESCAPE
- No recently released three new modules for ESCPAINT that you can get from
escape.atari.org of course !
- Nothing else has been announced but hey, they never announced HMM !! :)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FIT
- No sign of life from this Finnish crew : I don't even know if they attended
the ALT Party 3 at all. Not much to expect from there. Anyway I really like
surprises.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FUN
- Both Earx and D-force were to be seen at Paracon3. Still nothing more was
heard about their next Falcon demo. Havoc seems definitely too busy to be
involved in the scene anymore :(
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
IDEMLINE
- Sine is said to work in collaboration with Marss on porting TEMPEST 2000 on
Falcon, quite a project ! Except for the piece of news itself, nothing is
sure nor has been shown, so let's keep the hype down.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MEKKA SYMPOSIUM
- For the first time since 1996, this party is ready to welcome Atarians on
board ! Some of us will be there, hopefully to kick some PC asses with new
releases. I feel some goodies are on our way :)
>> see Mekka invitation <<
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MIND DESIGN
- Still no clue about their long delayed Falcon demo. Will it be one of the
'could happen' surprises at Mekka Symposium ?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MYSTIC BYTES
- The first official issue of CHOSNECK has recently been released. It seems as
good and professional looking as the previous issue shown with Abyss.
>> see Chosneck issue 1 review <<
- Some rumous say that MB has gone demo coding again ! Their next Falcon demo
should be called NILE. Planned release around summer 2002.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NEW
BEAT
- As well as their well-publicised work on the 'Ace' Soft Synth, New Beat have
been quietly adding to Willies Adventures since EIL ?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OXYGENE
- Several months ago Leonard gave away his very first ST demo, namely a music
disk. Old stuff or good stuff ?
>> see OXG Sound demo review <<
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PARANOIA
- Paranoia released a small reminder to promote the PARACON 3 party
>> see Paracon3 reminder <<
- This party held in last December was pretty cool and gathered about 20
Atarians in Germany
>> see Paracon3 report <<
- On that occasion Paranoia also entered a 64Kbtro on Falcon called ILLUSION 64
>> see Illusion 64 review <<
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PETR STEHLIK
- Petr Stehlik/Joysoft's Atari 800 emulator has reached version 1.2 (from the
last TOS version which was 1.0) It has gained more bugfixes, improved
compatibility with the more exotic bits of the original hardware, even a
fair to middling impersonation of Pokey sound, but no extra speed,
unfortunately. One to wait for the CT60 to get the full benefit from, really.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PHF
- Work is still in progress on their UMD8730. Hopefully I can tell you that
release date is coming closer AT LAST :) Stay tuned !
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PYJAMA
- Pyjama is officially inactive since Exocet joined CREATORS. All his contribs
are therefore going to be released under this label.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
RESERVOIR GODS
- ChuChu Rocket finally hit the Scene some months ago !
>> see ChuChu Rocket review <<
UPDATE : several bugfixed versions of ChuChu have been released so that it
now runs on all ATARIS ! Latest update even works on STf!
- Now they are working on GODPEY, a game introducing some vegetables :)
>> see GodPey preview <<
- Mr Pink seems to be everywhere now as he's also involved in another game with
the guys of Sector One. No announcment has been made so far.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
RODOLPHE CZUBA
- Things have been pretty quiet in that part of our world. Latest news on DHS
read that the CT060 is now ready to be produced... Clock frequency has been
slightly slowed down but shouldn't reduce the CT060 possibilities that much.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SATANTRONIC
- This 8bit crew from Eastern Europe (Slovekia ?) has extended to the ST and
Falcon and released several thingies of really low quality so far. Future
will tell if they can bring any good stuff.
>> see Forever3 review <<
>> see Planar intro review <<
>> see Xmas intro review <<
>> see small screens on Falcon reviews <<
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SECTOR ONE
- They are supposedly working on a game with Mr Pink/RG. Early stages of this
seen at 3 Alt, currently playable but lots to do. It will have impressive
visuals, drawn by a top artist, that might be legitimately mistaken for a 256
colour game!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THE
COOLEST PARADISE
- This French and so far unknown crew recently released an STe slideshow.
>> see Thematic Slide Show 1 review <<
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TROLL'N CO
- Matt'Us Alem, only known active member of Troll'n Co, released a 64Kb Falcon
intro at Paracon 3.
>> see I am a Troll review <<
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TSCC
- Once revived UCM seems to be lying on ice again... We'll wait till next year
then.
- RAY has been pretty active lately as he released 4 screens ranking from 256
byte stuff to full 4Kb. Now he said he's focusing on WOLFENSTEIN 3D again.
>> see small screens on Falcon reviews <<
- tSCc has a new member as REMO decided to join them. Goods news : sounds like
more nice stuff is in the pipeline.
- MC Laser has released 2 new volumes of FADING TWILIGHT ! You can fully and
freely enjoy these from http://tscc.atari.org
>> see Content of Fading Twilight Excerpt Three
>> see Content of Fading Twilight Excerpt Four
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WILDFIRE
- Sorry for the typo that could be noticed in the previous issue News Column :)
- Long awaited demo for Falcon, effects previewed at 3 Alt, very nice, well up
to contemporary standards. Described on website as around 50-60% complete and
expected at some point this year.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
YES
CREW
- SWE has recently released a major update to the Graoumf Tracker, now reaching
v 0.8801. Naturally you can get it from http://yescrew.atari.org
